Stade Rennais was born on March 10, 1901, founded by former students of the city. In 1904, the merger with the Football Club Rennais created the Stade Rennais Université Club and introduced the red and black, inherited from the absorbed club. Rennes, the administrative center of Ille-et-Vilaine and capital of Brittany: the club represents both.
Route de Lorient
The club moved to the Route de Lorient in September 1912. The stadium has not moved since. In 2015, it was renamed Roazhon Park. Roazhon is Breton for Rennes.
The season that stands out is 1964-1965. Fourth in the league, just as in 1948-1949, with a Coupe de France win to top it off. Jean Prouff is the coach. On May 23, 1965, the final against Sedan ended in a 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes. Three days later, the replay went their way: 3-1, with a brace from Daniel Rodighiero, including a penalty in the 86th minute, and a goal from Marcel Loncle. Yves Boutet lifted the trophy.
Rodighiero had scored twenty league goals that season. Around him, Marcel Aubour in goal, and Louis Cardiet and René Cédolin in defense. The generation that the Route de Lorient crowd saw grow up. Raymond Keruzoré arrived afterward, the playmaker of the 1970s.
Red and black are not worn, they are passed down.
Two D2 titles, in 1956 and 1983, say the rest: the club has bounced back every time. Brittany has never let go of its Stade Rennais.
