A night in Seville
July 8, 1982. France faces West Germany for a spot in the World Cup final. Platini wears the armband, the number 10 pulls the strings. After the Germans open the scoring, he equalizes from the penalty spot. 1–1.
Then comes extra time. Marius Trésor strikes first, Alain Giresse scores in turn: 3–1 to France. For a few minutes, Les Bleus are within reach of their first World Cup final.
Then everything changes. Germany fights back to 3–3. For the first time in World Cup history, a qualification is decided by a penalty shootout. France loses.
But something has just been born. This team didn't win the trophy: they left a memory passed down from generation to generation. Platini, Giresse, Tigana, Trésor, Bossis, Battiston — and this blue jersey that became inseparable from the night in Seville.
The jersey
A design immediately recognizable as French football from the early 80s: the blue of Les Bleus, the white collar, the thin vertical red and white stripes, the three stripes on the shoulders, and the rooster on the chest. And on the back, Platini's 10.
