Serie A at its peak, European nights, Italian pitches, and a 21-year-old Ronaldo who seemed to play football from another planet. In his first season in the Nerazzurri colors, O Fenômeno wore the number 10 and wrote one of the first great chapters of his history with Inter.

The history

1997. Ronaldo arrives in Milan.

At that time, the Italian league brought together an almost surreal concentration of talent. Maldini, Del Piero, Batistuta, Zidane, Baggio… and now Ronaldo.

With Inter, the Brazilian discovered a more physical, more tactical, and tighter style of football. Yet, it changed almost nothing.

Devastating acceleration, tight dribbles, changes of direction, power, technique: the Ronaldo of 1997/98 was the player defenders knew they had to stop, without really knowing how.

And this season has its definitive image.

Paris, May 6, 1998. UEFA Cup final against Lazio.

Inter was leading 2–0 when Ronaldo headed for goal, found himself one-on-one with Luca Marchegiani, beat him with that characteristic ease, and then finished. 3–0.

A few seconds that perfectly summarize the Fenômeno of that era. Inter lifted the UEFA Cup, and this horizontal-striped jersey entered the memory of European football forever.

This is not just an Inter jersey. It is the pre-injury Ronaldo. The Ronaldo of the late 90s. The Fenômeno.
