Rabat for its institutions, Casablanca for its fervor, the Atlas mountains as a backdrop. Red and green have formed the identity of the Atlas Lions since the federation's birth in 1955, on the eve of independence.

The long march of the Atlas Lions

First World Cup in 1970, in Mexico. The country discovered the world stage there. Six years later, in Ethiopia, it won the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations. Ahmed Faras wore the captain's armband for that team.

Back to Mexico in 1986. Group F: England, Poland, Portugal. Morocco finished first and became the first African nation to advance past the group stage of a World Cup. They only fell in the round of 16. Badou Zaki guarded that goal.

Before them, Larbi Ben Barek had paved the way to Europe, in Marseille then at Atlético Madrid, to the point that he was nicknamed the Black Pearl. After them came Mohamed Timoumi, then Mustapha Hadji. And a habit took hold: Morocco was no longer content with just participating.

Qatar, 2022. Morocco eliminated Spain then Portugal and became the first African and Arab national team to reach a World Cup semi-final.

1970, 1976, 1986, 2022. A trajectory that has never looked back.
