May 4, 1994, Parken Stadium, Copenhagen. Cup Winners' Cup final against Parma. Ian Wright is suspended, John Jensen too, Martin Keown pulls out that very morning. In the twenty-first minute, a botched clearance by Minotti falls to Alan Smith, who controls it with his chest and strikes with his left. The ball goes in off the post. 1-0, and the defense holds firm until the end in front of 33,765 spectators.
February 21, 2006, Santiago-Bernabéu. Two minutes after the break, Thierry Henry sets off from the center circle, withstands the challenge of the Madrid defenders, and strikes from a tight angle. No English team had ever won at this stadium before.
Two months later, at El Madrigal, Jens Lehmann saves a penalty from Juan Román Riquelme in the final minutes of the semi-final second leg. Arsenal qualifies without conceding a goal. Throughout that European campaign, the team went 995 minutes without conceding a goal, ten matches in a row.
