Francis-Le Blé, a little over fifteen thousand seats
The merger brought together the city's youth organizations: l'Armoricaine-Avenir, la Milice Saint-Michel, les Jeunes de Saint-Marc, and la Flamme du Pilier Rouge. L'Armoricaine has existed since 1903. The pitch stems from that history: the grounds opened in the early 1920s under the name Stade de l'Armoricaine. It would later take the name of Francis Le Blé, mayor of Brest who died in 1982. A little over 15,000 seats, packed into the city.
The first promotion to the top tier dates back to 1979. What followed was the club's most intense decade: under the presidency of François Yvinec, between 1981 and 1991, Brest spent nine out of ten seasons among the best French teams, with an eighth-place finish in 1987 being the best ranking of that period. Youth development kept pace: the club's youngsters won the Gambardella Cup in 1990, and Corentin Martins broke through around the same time.
1991 broke everything. Massive deficit, administrative relegation, filing for bankruptcy a few months later. The professional team disappeared, the reserve team became the first team. It would take twenty-eight years, until 2019, to return to the top tier.
In between, the stadium remained open and the public stayed right there. That is what allowed for the climb, level by level, with squads built on a budget and the city center just ten minutes from the stands.
A club that has never had any city other than its own.
Twenty-eight years between the liquidation and the return to the top tier. The fans, for their part, never had to come back.
