HAC traveled early on. From the very first championships, the Norman club went to the Paris region to claim its titles, and it has never stopped heading south for its biggest encounters.
Champion in Paris, winner in Colombes
1899. The USFSA opened its championship to provincial clubs. Le Havre was crowned without having played the final: the Club Français refused to face them, deeming the opponent unrepresentative. The federation ruled in favor of the Normans. The following year, all doubt was dispelled on the pitch: 1-0 against that same Club Français, on May 6, 1900, in Bécon-les-Bruyères.
May 3, 1959, Stade de Colombes. Coupe de France final against Sochaux, 2-2 after extra time. Replay required. On May 18, at the same venue, Le Havre won 3-0. No second-division club had ever won the tournament before.
As for the Norman derby, it has changed addresses. For a long time, the opponent was FC Rouen: a rivalry of territory, port, and commerce. Stade Malherbe de Caen took over starting in the 1990s. In 1991-1992, the two Norman clubs finished the season within two points of each other: Caen fifth and qualified for Europe, Le Havre seventh.
The club's name also circulates through its players. Paul Pogba honed his skills at Le Havre before leaving for Manchester in 2009. Riyad Mahrez launched his professional career there before moving to England. HAC has been exporting talent for a long time.
Almost all of HAC's major milestones bear the name of a city other than Le Havre.
