Colombes, the Parc, Europe
May 4, 1952, Stade de Colombes: Nice beats Bordeaux 5-3 to win its first French Cup. Back to the same venue on May 23, 1954, against Marseille this time, 2-1. It would then take until May 10, 1997, and the Parc des Princes for the next trophy, snatched on penalties against Guingamp. It was the last French Cup final played at the Parc.
Le Gym discovered the European Cup in 1956-1957. The Eaglets eliminated Glasgow Rangers in the round of 16: beaten 2-1 in Glasgow, winners 2-1 in the return leg, then 3-1 in the playoff match played at the Parc des Princes on November 28. Real Madrid knocked them out in the next round.
Three years later, Real crossed their path again in the quarter-finals. Victor Nurenberg scored all three goals, including one penalty, and Nice won 3-2 on February 4, 1960: no French club had yet beaten the Madrilenians in the European Cup. The return leg ended in a 4-0 Madrid victory, and Real would go on to claim its fifth consecutive title.
As for the rivalry, it spans twenty kilometers of coastline. The Côte d'Azur derby pits Nice against Monaco, two neighboring clubs sharing the same strip of coast, with Marseille as a backdrop further to the west.
Nice has never needed to play at home to remind everyone who it is.
A club whose most cited dates bear the names of Parisian and Madrilenian stadiums.
