May 29, 1991, San Nicola Stadium in Bari. European Cup final against Red Star Belgrade. 0-0 after extra time, 5-3 defeat on penalties. Manuel Amoros misses his. The journey home is made in silence.
Two years later, the road passes through Scotland: 2-2 at Ibrox against Rangers, in a group that Marseille finishes one point ahead of the Scots. A point earned in Scotland, and the group tipped in the right direction.
May 26, 1993, Munich's Olympiastadion. Final against AC Milan. Basile Boli scores with a header in the 43rd minute. 1-0. The first French club to win the European Cup. The trophy returned to Marseille; it was won in Bavaria.
May 19, 2004, Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg. UEFA Cup final lost 2-0 to Valencia, goals from Vicente and Mista, in front of thirty-nine thousand spectators, with Pierluigi Collina officiating.
