The second club of Paris, the one that has spent the better part of its history on the roads of France.
The 1972 divorce, then the road
May 1972. The Paris city council makes its support conditional on the abandonment of the name "Saint-Germain." On May 16, the general assembly of members rejects the request by just three votes: 623 votes in favor, 626 needed. The professional section breaks away and becomes Paris Football Club again; Paris Saint-Germain keeps the amateurs and starts over from the bottom. Two clubs for one city: the Parisian rivalry dates back to that day.
Two years later, everything flips. In 1974, Paris FC goes down while its neighbor moves up and takes over the Parc des Princes. The club then learns the locker rooms of others, provincial pitches, and modest stadiums, from one end of the country to the other.
Its finest journey has a date: 1980. In the Coupe de France, Paris FC eliminates AJ Auxerre in the quarterfinals, 1-1 then 2-0, and reaches the final four. US Orléans wins 3-1 in the first leg; the return victory, 2-1, is not enough. Orléans would go on to play the final against Monaco.
No European campaign to recount, and the club does not invent one. Its history on the road is that of a team that experienced Division 1 as well as amateur leagues, with a handful of faithful followers in both cases. In November 2024, the Agache holding company acquires a stake in the club and takes a majority share.
Two clubs, one capital: one took the spotlight, the other took to the road.
Wearing these colors far from Paris means claiming the city's other history.
