December 13, 1987, National Stadium in Tokyo. Intercontinental Cup against Peñarol of Montevideo. Snow is falling incessantly, the pitch is turning into a quagmire, 45,000 spectators hold firm. In the 109th minute, in extra time, a lob over the goalkeeper makes the difference. 2-1. First world title for the club.
May 18, 2011, Aviva Stadium in Dublin. First European final between two Portuguese clubs, Porto versus Braga. In the 44th minute, the Colombian Radamel Falcao heads in a cross from his compatriot Fredy Guarín. 1-0, in front of 45,391 spectators.
Between the two dates, a constant method: scouting elsewhere, especially in South America, for players that the major leagues have not yet seen, helping them win at Porto, and then watching them leave.
Porto never waited for anyone to come to it.
