Caniggia equalizes with a header in the 67th minute; Italian goalkeeper Walter Zenga concedes his first goal of the tournament there. 1-1, then 4-3 on penalties, with Sergio Goycochea on his line. Five days later, in Rome, Argentina loses the final 0-1.

July 4, 1993, Guayaquil. Copa América final against Mexico. Gabriel Batistuta scores in the 63rd and then the 74th minute. 2-1. A continental title won in Ecuador, more than four thousand kilometers from Buenos Aires.

Travel is part of the South American trade: qualifiers are played from La Paz to Barranquilla, at high altitude or in humidity, on pitches where nothing is a given.

Wherever it plays, Argentina finds a grandstand that recognizes it.
